Head of Customer Experience
Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm (40 hours a week), full time, permanent position

We are engineers and manufacturers of specialist blinds. Our mission is to improve façade performance and contribute to inspirational, sustainable architecture. Our team of 30 people work internationally on some of the world’s most prominent construction projects.

The role:
In this exciting position as Head of Customer Experience, you will generate repeat business by ensuring that we provide excellent customer service. You will manage the Customer Services Team, creating a high-performance team environment where our people thrive, and making it your personal mission to ensure that Guthrie Douglas has a reputation for always delivering for our customers.
Reporting to the Managing Director, you will possess the necessary drive, enthusiasm and tenacity to work alongside the senior management team to take the business to the next stage of its development. Results driven, with an open and approachable management style, you will be comfortable growing your team to reach their potential and developing relationships with senior people across our extensive international customer base.

Key responsibilities:
Manage, coach and develop the Customer Services team (6 direct reports). Allocate day to day work and manage team workload.
Generate repeat business through excellent customer communication and precise delivery of customer requirements.
Exceed customer expectations and improve our margins through efficient management of team workload.
Help other GD teams meet their objectives through clear communication and consistent delivery.
Build relationships with key customers & suppliers.
Maintain & improve customer services processes including ERP related processes.
High level management of complaints including agreement of commercial resolutions.
Ownership and improvement of Customer service tools such as price lists and datasheets.
Ensure that customer orders are processed efficiently and accurately, providing excellent service communication to the customer.
Manage the Production Schedule, ensuring that materials are ordered in time and that changing customer priorities are reflected in production activity.
Get directly involved with Customer Services Team workload when required.
Report KPIs and other management information to the Directors

Essential experience & skills
Managing and developing a team of at least 3 people.
Proven track record of achievement in a B2B Customer Service environment.
Leading change and improvement initiatives.
Proven track record of achievement in a Customer Service environment.
Working in a technical environment (Production, Engineering, Manufacturing or Construction)
Excellent Communication skills – both written and verbal.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage and prioritise a busy and varied workload.

Desirable experience & skills
Working within a construction products environment.
Technical understanding of engineering or construction, especially facades, shading or building automation.

Second language (preferably German, French, Russian or Mandarin).

UK PROJECT CONSULTANT

The role:

In this new, exciting position as UK Project Consultant, you will develop and deliver our pipeline of major project specifications generated from the UK to develop the market and growth plan for Guthrie Douglas. This is an exciting time to join our business as we grow, this role will be an integral part of driving that growth and implementing change.

Reporting to the Group Sales Director, you will possess the necessary drive, enthusiasm and tenacity to manage and develop UK markets. Results driven, you will be comfortable building strong relationships within the façade and consultant market along with working alongside your sales/marketing colleagues to generate new leads.

Key responsibilities:

  • Consult with identified top tier architects, façade engineers and contractors to specify Guthrie Douglas products and solutions on major façade and commercial projects.
  • Create leads and track projects from inception to delivery, engaging with all project stakeholders to ensure that the best specification for the project is made, held, and delivered successfully.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with GD delivery partners.
  • Maintain and proactively manage a pipeline to ensure conversion rate for leads is maximised. Attend company meetings and report to management on pipeline status and activities.
  • Represent Guthrie Douglas to specifiers, industry groups and stakeholders in the construction industry, including presentations, training, entertaining clients, and attending relevant industry events and exhibitions.

Essential experience & skills

  • Strong technical understanding of facades, shading or commercial building automation
  • Read and interpret manufacturing and construction drawings
  • Broad understanding of construction of the building envelope – materials and construction methods
  • Understanding of the construction industry processes from project initiation to product specification, project delivery and post-completion
  • Construction industry structure and key players
  • Effective specification sales strategies and techniques
  • Microsoft Office Software essential including Outlook
  • ERP systems & sales order processing (preferably Microsoft Dynamics Navision)
  • Publishing and presentation software

PRODUCTION OPERATIVE

RESPONSIBLE TO: Team Leaders and Production Supervisor

OBJECTIVE:
To manufacture Guthrie Douglas product ranges to the correct quality standards and engineering specifications; and assemble parts and kits, to enable the customers’ orders to be satisfied first time, on time, every time.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
To assemble and manufacture parts and kits for the Tess product ranges, in accordance with the works orders and the ISO9001:2015 Quality procedures.

To ensure that goods are packed (in accordance with specific transit requirements to minimise damage) and despatched right first time, on time, every time.

MAIN DUTIES

  1. Assemble & Manufacture TESS™, parts and assemblies to the correct specification, in accordance with the works orders and instructions from management
  2. Receive works orders and check instructions prior to manufacture, advising Production management of any potential issues.
  3. Pick the parts according to the works order from the stores.
  4. Pack goods and orders for TESS™, ensuring that all components are packed in such a way as to minimise the risk of damage to the contents during long haul transit.
  5. Load and unload goods and materials, using appropriate lifting equipment including crane and slinging, and fork truck, as qualified and as necessary.
  6. Carry out final inspection on goods manufactured by other staff.
  7. Maintain general machinery and replace consumable parts, when necessary.
  8. The accurate manufacture of parts on the CNC Machines to the correct specification within acceptable manufacture lead times.
  9. General Duties:

  10. Maintain and archive Company files and records effectively where necessary.
  11. Use information technology when necessary to maximise efficiency and ensure work is saved electronically to provide an audit trail to protect the business from unreasonable claims.
  12. Help to cover the duties of other personnel during periods of holiday and other absence.
  13. Maintain a reasonable standard of housekeeping.
  14. Assist in annual stock take.
  15. Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by Management.

DEPUTY SUPERVISOR

RESPONSIBLE TO: Production Supervisor

OBJECTIVE:
To contribute towards the efficiency and profitability of the company by manufacturing and despatching rollers and TESS systems for the Automated Solar Shading product range, to the correct quality standards and engineering specifications, to enable the customers orders to be satisfied first time, on time, every time.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the accurate manufacture of TESS systems and rollers to the correct specification within manufacture lead times.

Ensure finished products are inspected and packed in accordance with the ISO9001:2008 Quality procedures and standards and despatched on time.

Deputise for the Production Supervisor.

MAIN DUTIES
TESS and Manufacture of Rollers

  1. Receive production orders from Sales Department and check instructions prior to manufacture, advising the Production Supervisor of any potential issues.
  2. Delegate work to your production team on a daily basis and ensure they understand the work instructions.
  3. Assemble TESS systems in accordance with production orders.
  4. CNC setting and programming as required.
  5. For barrel assemblies, pick materials for the works order from the racking and manufacture rollers and TESS systems to the engineering drawings and specifications issued.
  6. Ensure that final inspection is carried out on all goods manufactured by staff.
  7. Supervise the packing of goods and orders for despatch.
  8. Prepare order requisitions for materials and tools required and issue to the Production Supervisor for approval.
  9. Train employees in the production techniques used in roller manufacture and TESS and packing procedures and ensure that they are capable of covering duties during periods of absence.
  10. Deputise for the Production Supervisor and cover duties of other shop floor personnel during periods of holiday and other absence.
  11. Assist the Development and Engineering departments, when needed.
  12. Carry out Fire Marshal duties, when required.
  13. Personnel Management

  14. Provide guidance and support to staff regarding their daily tasks and other duties.
  15. Ensure that all direct staff work effectively with other departments and encourage them to meet their individual goals and objectives.
  16. Supervise, motivate and lead staff.
  17. Regularly monitor and review the performance and contribution of staff and provide feedback to the Production Supervisor.
  18. Facilitate and resolve any matters of dispute with employees, using the Company’s disciplinary and grievance procedures in conjunction with the Production Supervisor and Personnel Manager.
  19. Ensure staff comply with the Company’s Health and Safety policy and procedures.
  20. General Duties
