Open your eyes to LIRIS
Imagine a shading system that moves with the sun, so you don’t have to.
In collaboration with Serge Ferrari, world leaders in technical fabrics, we are proud to announce the development of a new shading technology that will offer unrivalled levels of flexibility and performance.
Introducing a proprietary system developed by Guthrie Douglas with LIRIS fabric from Serge Ferrari, that enables you to adjust light transmission levels at the press of a button, or in response to the sun.

FAQ's
LIRIS is a variable openness factor blind system designed for interior use. It allows dynamic solar protection by adjusting the openness factor of the fabric between 1% and 10%, depending on user needs or environmental conditions.
LIRIS operates with a combination of elastic and non-elastic yarns to adjust the openness factor. It requires a motorised system, ideally integrated with a Building Management System (BMS) for optimal energy efficiency. Predefined positions for openness factors are programmed into the motor software, although manual adjustments are possible.
Yes, manual adjustments are possible within the 1%-10% range. However, manual operation is not optimal for maintaining the energy performance of the building.
LIRIS is compatible with specific Somfy motors (such as the Sonesse 40 with a custom program). Guthrie Douglas is also developing a bespoke control system for LIRIS, and future RTS (Radio Technology Somfy) versions are expected to be available at launch.
The invention involves collaboration between Serge Ferrari (fabric design) and Guthrie Douglas (control system and locking mechanism). Both companies have filed patents related to LIRIS components.
Guthrie Douglas is designing the control systems for LIRIS and has filed a patent for a locking mechanism that allows the hem bar to lock and adjust the fabric’s openness factor dynamically.
Yes, patents for the system’s variable openness factor and locking mechanism have been filed by Somfy and Guthrie Douglas, respectively.
The commercial launch of LIRIS is planned for Q4 2025, with the first possible projects beginning in Q2 2025.
Currently, functioning demo units are expected in summer 2025, but samples will not be available before spring 2025. You can register your interest via email at liris@guthriedouglas.com to explore potential early access.
From summer 2025, LIRIS systems will be available for purchase from Guthrie Douglas alongside their other products. The fabric will not be sold directly by Serge Ferrari.
The estimated cost of LIRIS systems is approximately 30% higher than standard interior zip roller blinds, reflecting its advanced functionality and materials.
Documentation is under development, with marketing samples and demo units expected by mid-2025. Additional certifications (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001, Greenguard Gold, and EPD) will be completed post-launch.
