As a global leader in automation technologies, Festo Group sought an engineered complex solar shading solution for its headquarters in Esslingen.
The technology plant at this site, which produces valves, valve terminals, and electronics, exemplifies Festo Group’s commitment to resource-efficient and sustainable working environments.
THE CHALLENGE
To replace existing permanent fabric sails in the large glass atrium roof of the reception area as they were proving ineffective in reducing overheating. The clients sought a more aesthetically pleasing solution to create a positive first impression for visitors. The objective was to enhance both the visual appeal and functionality of the atrium with a symmetrical installation of advanced solar shading.
THE SOLUTION
Guthrie Douglas provided the perfect solution with its TESS™140 system, which is discreet when retracted, preserving the atrium’s clean lines.
Delivered and installed in February 2024, the project involved collaborative efforts where the customer designed custom brackets to fit the existing façade. Guthrie Douglas offered specification support and advice, working closely with the customer’s drawings to ensure a seamless integration.
The result was an elegant and aesthetic solar shading with high-performance fabric that successfully eliminates glare and reflects solar radiation to achieve low g-values.
